A six month bicycle ride to see America, visiting state capitols in the northern US states. Why?

The exact timing and locations will vary as I go along but some rough ideas are listed in the route page including some potential items I also explored.  My plan is to start in Washington DC, and cycle to as many state capitols as I can during a six month period before taking an Amtrak train back home.
